RARE REVOLUTIONARY WAR FRENCH MODEL 1763 FLINTLOCK MUSKET, US SURCHARGED

Description :
|
This is an original, French Model 1763 Flintlock Musket. Supplied to the colonists by France in large numbers, this type is considered to be the standard U.S. Musket of the Revolutionary War. It is .69 caliber with a barrel that is about 44 3/4" in length. While the original maker's marks are not completely visible, the rear of the lock is clearly stamped "US". The musket is in very good condition with an overall dark brown patina. The patina is textured in most areas and there is pitting in the area around the pan of the flint lock. The frizzen spring shows some heavy pitting. The lock is in working condition. The bore is very dark and heavily pitted. The stock is in very good condition. There are some small dings and scratches overall. There is a large, natural check crack running forward from the toe of the butt about 4". It is on the right side of the lower butt. The wood appears to be American walnut, indicating that the musket may have been restocked during the Revolution. This was a common practice to keep damaged arms in service to the ill-equipped colonists. Revolutionary War American-used muskets are very rare today. This is a nice example to add to your collection just in time for the 250th anniversary of our country! Stock no. 31539
