Item No.: 10572 Price : $695.00
Item : INDIAN WARS ERA TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD RIFLE, TACK DECORATED, .45-70
Description :
This is a Trapdoor Springfield Rifle of the Indian Wars period that has been cut down and decorated with brass tacks in the style of Native American Plains warriors. Warriors would decorate captured weapons for their own use. Is this one of those captured arms? I have no idea. The tacks look like they have been there for some time, but you would have to remove one and look at the shank to try to get an idea about their age. Most guns used by native Americans show hard use and that is certainly the case here. The butt plate has been removed and the edges rounded for use. The gun is in poor condition with heavy pitting on the barrel and receiver. The lock works well. The bore is in poor condition, dark with pitting. The barrel band is an obvious replacement with almost all of its blued finish remaining. The stock has a number of small dings, scratches, and gouges. There are two visible cartouches, but I can't make them out. One looks like "W W". The markings on the lock are all but gone. I have no way of knowing if this is a real Indian used rifle. Look at the pictures and see what you think. Stock no. 31499
