Here is an antique, original Colt Lightning Rifle manufactured in 1897 and chambered for the .22 Short and Long Rimfire cartridges. It is a small frame, slide action rifle with a 24" octagonal barrel feeding from a tubular magazine. Colt made these from 1887 to 1904. This rifle is in antique fine condition with 60-70% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is light overall finish wear which is heavier on the receiver. The receiver tangs show heavier finish wear and have turned a smooth brown. The finish on the bottom of the frame is worn at the carry point. The entire gun has a light coating of grime, like old smoke residue. It has been cleaned a bit on the barrel revealing a nice finish below. I think it will clean up well with one of those molybdenum scrubbing pads. Just don't use it on the brass or wood! The gun's mechanics work very well. The bore is in fine condition. The wood is very good to fine with most of its varnish remaining. There are a few scrapes, dings, and scratches from use. The hard rubber butt plate is very fine with no chips or cracks. It features the Rampant Colt emblem. These little slide action Colts are increasingly hard to find. Stock no. 31229
