RARE, BELGIAN MADE SPENCER REPEATING CARBINE, .50 CALIBER
Description :
Here is a Spencer Repeating carbine made by Falisse & Trappman of Liege, Belgium in 1873. It is .50 caliber, and I believe a rimfire. Following the Civil War, thousands of Spencers were sent to Europe. The Spencer Repeaters, both rifles and carbines, were quite popular with French troops during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871. The Spencer was so popular, in fact, that Falisse & Trappman got permission to manufacture them under license. They produced less than 1000 carbines in 1873. Very few have made it to the United States. This carbine is in fine to very fine condition with about 90% of its blued finish remaining. There is a spiral pattern of rust speckled on the barrel, as if something was wrapped around it and rusted lightly at the edges. These rust spots are lightly pitted. There is some surface rust around the muzzle. There are also some rust speckles on the butt plate. The hammer, lock, trigger plate, and barrel band were case colored and have faded to a smooth gray patina. The carbine has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore. The wood is in very fine condition with a few small dents and dings from use. There is an oval cartouche with the initials "FT" on the top rear of the receiver and on the belly of the stock, just behind the trigger plate. These Belgian Spencers are quite scarce, and this one is in great condition. Stock no. 31157
