VERY FINE CASED PAIR OF WILKISON PERCUSSION DUELING PISTOLS, .62 CALIBER

Description :
|
This is a cased pair of Wilkison Percussion Dueling Pistols with all of their accessories. Wilkison was a 19th century gunmaker in Edinburgh, Scotland. These probably date to the 1840's or 1850's. I have seen small turn barrel flintlock pistols by Wilkison, but never anything as fine as this set. These pistols are beautiful. They have eight-inch octagonal smooth-bore barrels of 18 balls to the pound, which is about .62 caliber. The barrels have a faux Damascus finish, known as "Plum and Lightning". The breech, tang, hammer, and lock are case colored. The stock furniture is blued steel. The varnished walnut stocks have finely checkered grips. Both pistols are in very fine to excellent condition with nearly all of their original finishes remaining. There may be a very tiny blemish or two and just a hint of wear on the sharp edges of the muzzle. There is a bit of rust around the nipples. Both pistols have excellent mechanics. One pistol's bore has a little rusting down near the breech. The other bore has some surface rust along its length, most of which should clean out. Both stocks are excellent with just a tiny ding or two from handling. Accessories include a bullet mold, cleaning rod, nipple wrench, and a small screwdriver/vent pick combination tool. Also included is a small powder flask with compartments in the base for balls and percussion caps. There is enough room for a couple of charges, which is basically all that is required for a duel. The presentation case looks to be mahogany. It is in very good condition with a bit of moth damage to the green felt lining. The center compartment dividers for the flask appear to have been glued back in at some time. The brass carrying handle on top of the case is engraved with "FREDERICK SMITH, ESQ.". His initials are also engraved on the small thumb pieces of each pistol. This is a beautiful pair of pistols in outstanding condition. Stock no. 31167
