Item No.: 10529 Price : $3,995.00
Item : CASED BAKER'S PATENT SIX CHAMBER, REVOLVING, LEVER COCK PISTOL
Description :
This is a Baker's Patent Six Chamber, Revolving, Lever Cock Pistol dating to the 1850's. The patent was issued in 1852. This English design is a transitional revolver, bridging the gap between the pepperbox designs and the traditional revolvers of the 1860's. This is a percussion revolver with a rotating cylinder and a 5 1/2" octagonal barrel. It has a 58 bore, which is about 44 caliber. The patent was actually issued for the "long-spur" hammer that cocked the gun. This revolver is in very fine condition in its oak presentation case with accessories. The pistol retains most of its blued finish, more than 95%. The barrel, cylinder, hammer, and trigger guard are blued and there is light wear on exposed edges. The frame is German silver and most of it remains. There are some speckles of corrosion on the back strap. There is simple engraving on the frame. The serial number is on the back strap. The pistol has excellent mechanics. The percussion cones are in excellent condition. The bore and chambers are very fine with strong rifling along the bore's length. The walnut grips are very fine with nearly all of the varnish remaining and just a very tiny ding or two from storage. There is an old collection number on the left grip. Accessories include a bullet mold, oil tin, cleaning rod, cap tin, and a small powder flask with a storage compartment for balls or percussion caps. It is marked "SYKES". The oak display case is very good, but there is some moth damage to the green felt lining. The Baker's trade label and instructions are inside the lid and in fine condition. This is a scarce and desirable transitional pistol from an important period of firearms history. Stock no. 31166
