Item No.: 10519 Price : $695.00
Item : WWI, RUSSIAN MODEL 1907 BEBUT KINDJAL SHORT SWORD, 1914 MFG., W/ SCABBARD
Description :
This is an original, WWI, Russian Model 1907 Bebut Kindjal Short Sword manufactured at the Zlatoust Arms Factory in 1914. Adopted in 1907, it was intended to replace the earlier shashka sword with something shorter and easier to handle. It was first issued to military police and later to machinegun crews and artillerymen. It saw widespread use in World War I. One has to question the wisdom of adopting a short sword in an age of long-range weaponry, but this thing must have been vicious in close quarters trench warfare. After hacking their way through most of WWI, they were no longer used after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. This sword is in fine to very fine original condition. It has a 17" curved blade with thin double fullers on either side that are about 11" long. The blade has a diamond shaped cross-section with both edges sharp. The left ricasso area has the Zlatoust Factory marking and the "1914" date. There are inspector initials on the reverse. The blade has a steel patina with fine brown speckling overall. There are a number of tiny nicks in the lower edge of the blade where it appears to have hit other blades. The wood grip handles are in fine condition with a few small dings and dents from use and a few tiny nicks at the pommel. There is a small chip on the bottom front of the right grip where it enters the brass collar just above the blade. The wood has a nice, smooth aged patina. The brass has a great yellow brass patina. The number "125" is stamped on the collar above the blade. The original scabbard is in fine condition with nearly all of the black finish remaining on the leather covering. The brass hardware has the same yellow brass patina as the brass on the sword. Both the tip and throat are firmly attached. The leather is sewn along the inside curved edge of the scabbard and remains tight. The leather on the opposite side has a short, thin crack just opening that is about three inches long. There are also some tiny cut marks perpendicular to the scabbard. This is almost always the result of the grandkids finding the sword in Grandpa's stuff and having a sword fight, one with the sword and one with the scabbard. One wonders how we kept all our fingers... The cuts on this scabbard are very minor. There is a long scratch on one side. The brass is marked with the same "A" inspector's initials as the sword. The number "132" is stamped on the throat. I don't know if they were supposed to match, but these obviously don't. A real Bebut Kindjal is increasingly hard to find and quite collectible. This is a very nice example. Stock no. 30728, $895.00 10520 FINE SAVAGE NRA MATCH RIFLE, .22 LONG RIFLE, W/ SLING, $695.00, PHOTOS 4,5,6 This is a Savage Model 19 NRA Match Rifle chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. Savage produced these from 1919 to 1932. This is a bolt action rifle feeding from a 5-raound box magazine. It has a military style, full length stock with a 25" barrel. It uses an adjustable, aperture rear sight. This rifle is in fine condition with more than 90% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is some finish wear on the lower barrel band, trigger guard, and butt plate. The bolt is finished armory bright. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is in fine condition with just a few tiny dings and scratches from use. Included is a short Kerr "No-Buckl" sling in fine condition. I think that this might actually be a Thompson sling, but it fits this little rifle perfectly. Most of these Savage rifles are hard used. This one is in very nice condition. Stock no. 31194
