SCARCE U.S. MODEL 1816 FLINTLOCK PISTOL, .54 CALIBER
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Pistol manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut. It is .54 caliber. North produced 19,374 of these for the U.S. Military between 1817 and 1820. This pistol is in very good condition. There is no original finish remaining. These were originally browned with case hardened locks. This pistol has been cleaned to armory bright. It remains bright with a light speckling of brown. The mechanics are excellent. The bore is rusty and dry. It looks like surface rust. A good cleaning and some oil is in order. The stock is in very fine condition with just a few small scratches and dings. There is a crisp inspector's cartouche on the the left flat behind the side plate. The hickory ramrod is missing the iron ferrule on the small end. It does not appear to have ever had one. The lock markings are crisp. The Model 1816 Pistol is a scarce U.S. Martial arm. All existing examples are now over 200 years old! Stock no. 25212
