EUROPEAN PERCUSSION, SINGLE-SHOT, SMOOTHBORE PISTOL, .65 CALIBER

Description :
Here is a European Percussion Single-Shot, Smoothbore Pistol of about .65 caliber. This may be a percussion conversion of a flintlock pistol, but I am not certain. If so, the entire lock was replaced, as the lock plate shows no sign of having been a flintlock. If so, this dates the gun to the 1820's. If it was originally percussion, then it is a bit later, possibly the late 1830's or early 1840's. The pistol is in fine condition with a mottled dark brown patina. The tapered and flared barrel is 7" long. It is a smooth bore. The stock furniture is brass and has a heavy, almost black patina. The percussion lock uses a bolster with a splash shield. The gun will cock and fire, but the hammer does not hold on the half-cock notch. The bore has a has a bit of rust but is mostly smooth with a dark patina. The stock is fine with a few small dings and scratches from use. This pistol is the correct size for belt or sash carry, very much like the trapper's pistols of the fur trade era. Stock no. 30933
