Description :

Here is an original, Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket made by Nathan Starr of Middleton, Connecticut in 1831. Starr produced 15,530 of these muskets for the United States Government between 1829 and 1840. These remained the standard U.S. musket until the adoption of the percussion Model 1842 musket. This gun is in very good to fine condition. It has been lightly cleaned to armory bright in the past and has a fine sprinkling of tiny pits overall. These are heavier around the pan. The frizzen has a smooth brown patina. The musket works well mechanically. It does not appear to be a reconversion. The bore is fair. There is some pitting, but a large portion remains smooth. The stock is good with a few dings and scratches from use. There is a crack at the back of the lock mortise that circles around the lock plate for about 1 1/2". There is a 2" divot on the left side of the stock at the barrel channel between the nose cap and first band. It appears to be an old burn or large chip. It has been worn smooth by years of handling. There is a faint remnant of a cartouche on the left flat of the stock. This is a good-looking example of a U.S. Model 1816. Stock no. 30924
