Item No.: 10488 Price : $495.00
Item : SCARCE, ORIGINAL AUSTRIAN MODEL 1854/67 WÄNZL RIFLE, 14X33MMR
Description :
This is an Original Austrian Wänzl Rifle chambered for the 14x33mm Rimfire cartridge. The Wänzl was a lifting block, breech-loading conversion of the Model 1854 Lorenz percussion rifle. It was a stopgap rifle to be used until enough of the M1867 Werndl–Holub rifles were available to fully arm the military. About 70,000 Lorenz rifles were converted. This rifle is in poor condition with an overall dark brown patina. There is fine pitting in some areas, heaviest around the breech and on the trigger guard and butt plate. The lock works but is very stiff. The bore is poor and heavily pitted. That doesn't matter, though, because there is a pin in the barrel about 8 inches from the muzzle, making the gun inoperable. The stock shows heavy wear. The belly of the stock has worn through to the ramrod channel. The ramrod is missing. This is a scarce and interesting piece of history for display only. Stock no. 30980
