Description :
|
This is an original, antique, German Model 1871/84 Mauser Rifle manufactured by Spandau in 1887. It is chambered for the 11x60mm Rimmed cartridge. The predecessor to this rifle, the Model 1871, was a single-shot and the first commercially successful rifle designed by the Mauser Brothers. It was rugged and dependable and used by number of countries. In 1884, the design was modified to incorporate an 8-round tubular magazine, thus becoming Germany's first repeating rifle, the Model 1871/84. These rifles were all purpose built as repeaters. No Model 1871 rifles were modified. The Model 1871/84 only served 4 years, being replaced by the smokeless powder firing, 8mm Model 1888 Commission Rifle. This rifle is in very fine to excellent condition with all matching numbers. It retains about 98% of its factory blued finish with just a few speckles. The receiver and bolt remain armory bright. There are some speckles of brown overall, a little heavier on the right side, and about one third of the bolt handle has a brown patina. The butt plate is also armory bright and about one third of it has a brown patina. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is very fine to excellent with crisp inspector's markings. There are 5 or 6 small dings from storage. This is an outstanding example of the Model 1871/84 Rifle. Stock no. 30986
