WWII, NATIONAL POSTAL METER US M1 CARBINE, RARE MIS-STAMPED BBL. DATE

Description :
|
This is an original, WWII, U.S. M1 Carbine Manufactured by National Postal Meter in late 1943 and chambered for the .30 caliber carbine cartridge. This gun is in fine condition and remains in its WWII, as-built configuration. It also has a rare mis-stamped barrel. National Postal Meter used barrels made by Underwood during their production runs. In October of 1943 Underwood produced some barrels dated "10-49" instead of "10-43". Apparently, some were distributed to several manufacturers and used on wartime M1 carbines. This is a documented wartime error and a handful of these guns are known to exist. This is one of them. This carbine retains about 90% of its parkerized finish with the trigger guard beginning to turn brown. There is also some wear on the butt plate. The barrel appears to be blued with some light rust speckling. The gun has an excellent bore and mechanics. The high wood stock is very fine with just a few tiny dings from use. It has the correct "NPM over FJA" inspector's cartouche with the Ordnance wheel. A rack number, "109" is stamped on the bottom of the pistol grip. Included is an original OD green web sling and one wartime 15-round magazine. This is a rare variation of the M1 carbine in very nice condition. Stock no. 30665
