FINE MODEL 1941 JOHNSON SEMI-AUTO RIFLE W/ BAYONET & SCABBARD, .30-06

Description :
|
This is an original, WWII era, Johnson Semi-Automatic Rifle chambered for the .30-06 cartridge. Developed before WWII, the Johnson was entered into competition against the M-1 Garand in the trials for a new Army rifle. The Garand won the day and the Johnson was not accepted. It did see limited service with the United States Marine Corps during the war. The Johnson is a short-recoil operated weapon feeding from a 10-round rotary magazine. Unlike the M1, the Johnson could be loaded from the existing 5-round stripper clips used for the Model 1903 Rifle. The barrel is removeable, which caused some problems with accuracy. Also, the dagger bayonet caused some problems with correct cycling of the action when fitted to the gun. Short-recoil arms require a pretty definite barrel weight to function correctly. The bayonet changed that. This rifle is in fine condition with about 98% of its parkerized finish remaining. The ventilated barrel shroud has developed a slight brown tinge. The gun has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings from use. Included is an original Model 1907 leather sling in good condition. It was made by the Western Manufacturing Co. The original bayonet is in fine condition with about 80% of its factory remaining. The scabbard is fine with tight stitching and some scuffing of the leather. This is a very nice example of the '41 Johnson. Stock no. 30591
