This is an original "The Protector" Palm Pistol manufactured by the Chicago Arms Company in the 1890's. It is chambered for the .32 extra short cartridge. Approximately 12,800 were produced. Usually fitted with checkered, black, hard rubber grip plates, a small number were fitted with pearl or ivory plates. This one has factory pearl grip plates. Most of these pistols also had a hard rubber grip pad on the cocking lever. A small number did not. This pistol does not have a grip pad, but I believe it originally had one that was removed at a later date. The gun is in fine condition with about 90% of its factory nickel remaining. There is some fine brown speckling in a few areas. The mechanism needs some work. These were notoriously fragile, and it looks like this one does not advance the next chamber into place when squeezed. The bore does have some rusting. These Palm Pistols are pretty scarce, and the pearl grip panels are rarer yet. Stock no. 26843
