Item No.: 10394 Price : $995.00
Item : REMINGTON U.S. MODEL 1917 RIFLE, .30-06, WWII RE-BUILD
Description :
This is an original, WWI, U.S. Model 1917 Rifle produced by Remington in 1917. The U.S. Model 1917 was based on the British P-14 Rifle being produced under contract by Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. The British contracts ended just as America entered WWI. Rather than retool to make the Model 1903, it was decided to alter the P-14 to accept the U.S. .30-06 Government cartridge and the M1917 Rifle was born. Over 2.5 million were produced before the war's end. The M1917 actually saw more service in the war than the '03 Springfield. Alvin York won his Congressional Medal of Honor with a Model 1917 Rifle. This rifle was rebuilt during WWII. It has a WWII replacement barrel made by Johnson Automatics and the stock has been reworked. There is a re-work/re-inspection stamp on the left side of the stock. The rifle is in fine condition with more than 90% of its blued finish remaining. This may actually be original, but I am not sure. There is some finish loss on the barrel band and on the butt plate. There is a small area of discoloration on the left side of the receiver. The rifle has excellent mechanics. The bore... Ah, the bore! Mere words cannot convey just how bad this bore is. Sewer pipe doesn't come close. If you look closely, you can see that it was, indeed, at one time rifled. The stock has been lightly sanded and oiled. This is one for the reenactor. Fire blanks and never worry about the bore! Stock no. 29770
