Description :
|
This is an original, U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle manufactured in 1902 and chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. Approximately 330,000 were made between 1898 and 1903. The M1898 Krag had the shortest service life of any U.S. arm, replaced by the M1903 Rifle just 5 years after production began. The Krag was the first U.S. Rifle to fire smokeless ammunition. This rifle is in fine condition with about 90% of its factory blued finish remaining. Most of the finish wear is on the butt plate. The oil quenched frame has a mottled black and dark gray finish. Most of the fire blued finish remains on the extractor. The body of the bolt has a bright finish. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore. The stock is in very good to fine condition with a few small dings and gouges from use. There is a large rough area just behind the hammer. It has been worn smooth over the years. Included is an original Model 1887 leather sling in good condition. The leather is a little stiff, but the sling is complete and fairly scarce. This is a great Krag in nice condition. Stock no. 30329
