Item :	CIVIL WAR 2ND MODEL MAYNARD CARBINE, .50 CALIBER

Description :

This is an original, Civil War 2nd Model Maynard Cavalry Carbine manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Also known as the Model 1863, the Maynard was a breech loading, percussion arm of .50 caliber. About 20,202 2nd Model Maynard Carbines were produced from 1863-1865. Cavalry units known to have been issued the Maynard were the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee. This carbine is in very fine condition. It retains more than 90% of its factory finishes with just a few small rust speckles and tiny nicks overall. The barrel probably has about 98% of its blued finish remaining. The hammer retains most of its blue with some light surface speckles. The frame and lever remain case colored with some surface rust on the trigger plate and under the sling bar. The butt plate is a textured dark brown. The carbine has excellent mechanics. The bore has some surface rust or grime. I believe it will clean up to a large degree. The stock is in fine condition with just a few small dings from use. There are two crisp inspector's cartouches on the left side of the wrist. Maynard s had a reputation for accuracy.
