ANTIQUE GERMAN KAR88 COMMISSION CARBINE, 7.92X67MM
Description :
This is an original, Antique German Model 1888 Commission Carbine manufactured by "ERFURT" in 1893. Basically a shortened version of the M1888 Rifle, the design of these arms was approved by a commission appointed to select a new pattern rifle for the German military. The design was criticized by nearly everyone in Germany and a number of lawsuits arose from the rifles use of patented features without permission. Nevertheless, the rifles and carbines served Germany well for a period of ten years or more. Chambered for the 7.92x57mm cartridge (8mm Mauser), the carbine was intended for mounted troops. This carbine is in very good condition with matching parts. It retains anout 80% of its blued finish with some finish wear on the exposed edges. It is a bit heavier on the magazine floor plate. The receiver remains armory bright but has developed a steel gray patina with some brown speckling. The bolt handle is a smooth dark brown. The butt plate has a steel patina with heavier brown speckling. The mechanics are excellent. The bore is in fine condition. It is a little frosty in the grooves, but the rifling is strong along the barrel's length. The stock is very good with a scattering of dings and scrapes from use. This is a good, original Kar88 that hasn't been "monkeyed with". Stock no. 30268
