SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1898 KRAG-JORGENSEN RIFLE, .30-40 KRAG
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle manufactured in 1900 and chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. Approximately 330,000 were made between 1898 and 1903. The M1898 Krag had the shortest service life of any U.S. arm, replaced by the M1903 Rifle just 5 years after production began. The Krag was the first U.S. Rifle to fire smokeless ammunition. This rifle is in fine condition with about 70% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is some light overall wear with some heavier wear on the butt plate. The black oil quenched receiver has some light wear, especially on the magazine gate and the left magazine side plate. The bolt remains armory bright with some brown speckling. The bolt handle has turned brown. The rifle has excellent mechanics with a fine bore. The bore has darkened near the muzzle, but the rifling remains strong along the barrel's length. The stock is in very fine condition with a few small dings from use. The inspector's cartouche and "P" firing proof are crisp. This is a nice example of the '98 Krag. Stock no. 30103
