FINE SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1898 KRAG-JORGENSEN RIFLE, .30-40 KRAG
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle manufactured in 1999 and chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. Approximately 330,000 were made between 1898 and 1903. The M1898 Krag had the shortest service life of any U.S. arm, replaced by the M1903 Rifle just 5 years after production began. The Krag was the first U.S. Rifle to fire smokeless ammunition. This rifle is in fine condition with more than 90% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is light finish wear on the exposed edges from use. The receiver has the typical mottled gray case-hardened finish, a bit lighter than the bluing. The mechanics are excellent. Krags are known for their glass smooth actions. The bore is good, a little dark but with strong rifling along the barrel's length. The stock is in very fine condition with a few tiny dings from use. The Inspector's Cartouche and firing proof are crisp. The "P" appears to have been double struck. Included is an original US Model 1907 leather sling in very good condition. It is dated 1918. This is a good looking Krag in nice condition. Stock no. 30103
