This is an original, Civil War, Gwynn & Campbell Cavalry Carbine manufactured by Gwynn & Campbell of Hamilton, Ohio. It is a .52 caliber, percussion breechloader with a 20" barrel. Also known as the "Union Carbine" or "Grapevine Carbine", it was produced under no fewer than 13 government contracts with a total of 8,202 manufactured. Union Cavalry outfits known to have been issued the Gwynn & Campbell include the 7th Tennessee, 5th & 8th Ohio, 4th & 8th Missouri, and the 3rd Wisconsin. This carbine is in very good to fine condition. It has an overall, very smooth, dark brown patina. The mechanics are excellent. There is some pitting at the mid-point of the bore, but the rifling is strongly visible along the barrel's length. The stock is very good with a few small dings and scratches from use. The ring is missing from the saddle ring bar. This is an interesting and unusual looking carbine. Stock no. 29939
