ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR PALMER BOLT ACTION CARBINE, .50 CALIBER
Description :
Here is a Palmer Bolt Action Carbine manufactured by E.G. Lamson & Co. in 1865. It is chambered for a .50 caliber rimfire cartridge. The Palmer has the distinction of being the first bolt action metallic cartridge firearm adopted by the US Military. Only about 1,000 of these were made for a late-war US Government contract. They were not delivered until June of 1865, arriving after the war's end. This carbine is in fine condition. The gun has an overall patina of mottled gray and brown. There is a small, pitted area on the lock with a pea-sized pit in the middle. The gun has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore. The walnut stock is very fine with a visible inspector's cartouche on the left flat. There are a few tiny dings from use. This is an interesting and scarce US Carbine. Stock no. 29936
