Description :
|
Here is an original Model 1862 Joslyn Cavalry Carbine manufactured in 1862 and chambered for the .52 Rimfire cartridge. Made by the Joslyn Fire Arms Company of Stonington, Connecticut, the breech loading Joslyn was one of the more widely used carbines of the War. The first Joslyns were delivered early in the war and deliveries continued into 1865. Cavalry Regiments known to have received the Joslyn were the 4th and 8th Indiana, the 19th New York, the 13th Tennessee, the 9th Pennsylvania, the 3rd West Virginia, the 2nd Wisconsin, the 1st Nebraska, the 1st Nevada, and the 11th Ohio. This carbine is in fine condition. The barrel retains about 30% of its blued finish. The remainder has developed a smooth brown patina. The lock has darkened but about 40% of the case color remains. The breech and hammer are a smooth brown. The brass stock furniture has a nice golden brass patina. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. Initials have been carved into it in a couple of places. There is a small bean sized spot that looks like a mouse gnawed it. It is at the back of the ring bar mounting. There is an inspector's cartouche on the left side of the stock above the ring bar. This is a nice example of a Model 1862 Joslyn with a great bore. Stock no. 29931
