This is an original, antique, U.S. Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen Rifle made at Springfield Armory in late 1896 or early 1897. It is chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. The Model 1896 was only produced from 1896-1898, with only about 62,000 made. This rifle is in very good condition with about 50-60% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is overall light finish wear from use and handling. The finish wear is heavier on magazine loading gate and side plate. There is also wear on the lower band. There is no finish on the butt plate, which has a mottled steel and brown patina. The bolt handle is bright. The rifle has excellent mechanics. The bore is good, a little dark and frosty but with visible rifling along the barrel's length. The stock is very good with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. There is no visible cartouche. Included is a U.S. Kerr "No Buckle" sling in very fine condition. This is a good-looking early Krag. Stock no. 29804
