Description :
|
This is an original, Model 1833 Hall-North U.S. Percussion Carbine. Manufactured in 1838 by Simeon North of Middletown, Ct., it is a breech-loading carbine of .52 caliber with a ram-rod bayonet in the fore-stock. The model 1833 carbine has the distinction of being the first percussion weapon officially adopted but the U.S. military or any other military, for that matter. The .52 caliber Halls were manufactured from 1836 to 1839 with only 6,133 produced. The 2nd U.S. Dragoons were armed with these carbines for their initial service in Florida. This carbine is in antique good condition. there is no finish left and the gun exhibits overall fine pitting. There is a brown and steel patina on most surfaces with the trigger guard and butt plate having a dark brown patina. The butt plate has a rough texture. The gun works well mechanically. The bore is dark with some rust patches. The chamber of the breech block is rusted, as well. The stock is very good with a number of small dings and scratches from use. This is one of the scarcer U.S. Martial arms. Stock no. 29791
