Description :

This is an original, WWI, British No.1, Mk.III* Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) Rifle produced by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) in 1917. It is chambered for the .303 British cartridge. The No.1, Mk.III* was the standard British Battle Rifle of the First World War. It continued in service through WWII. This is a fine condition rifle in a fair condition stock. The metal retains about 95% of its black finish with some finish wear on the high points and the rear sight protector. The rifle has excellent mechanics with a matching bolt. The nose cap is not matching. The bore is in very fine to excellent condition. The stock is an early type with the base for the volley sight. It is in fair condition with a lot of small dings and gouges from use. There are two holes on the right side that have been filled with wood putty. The end of the hand guard behind the front sight has been painted yellow. This must have some significance, but I don't have a clue as to what it is! This rifle is nicer than the stock it is in. The mis-matched nose cap makes me think someone dropped it in this stock for reasons unknown. Still, it does have the base for the volley sight! Stock no. 29755
