Item No.: 9792 Price : SOLD
Item : WWII, US STEVENS MODEL 520-30 RIOT GUN, 12 GAUGE
Description :
This is an original, WWII, US Stevens Model 520-30 Riot Gun in 12 gauge. Although discontinued in 1932, the military's need for shotguns the army bought the guns right off the shelf of gun shops and hardware stores around the country. This was the "Blanket Procurement" program. While most were used as is for training purposes (they were used to train pilots in deflection shooting), some were converted to trench and riot guns. Stevens eventually produced the Model 520-39 again for the war effort. The guns acquired under Blanket Procurement have commercial blued finishes and glossy checkered wood. This is one of the early shotguns bought off the shelf. It has been converted to a riot gun with a 19 1/2" barrel. The gun is clearly stamped "U.S." on the left side of the receiver above the trigger guard. It is in very good condition with about 70% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is overall light finish wear, especially on the high points. There is some very light pitting in some small areas from surface rust. It is more like etching than pitting, leaving behind a brown patina. The gun has excellent mechanics and a perfect bore. The stock is in very good condition with the usual small dings and scratches from use. The stock was varnished and about 80% of this finish remains. The butt stock is just a tiny bit loose at the receiver. This is a WWII Stevens that has seen some service. Stock no. 27552
