NAPOLEONIC WARS FRENCH CUIRASSIER'S HEAVY CAVALRY SWORD & SCABBARD
Description :
This is a Napoleonic Era French Heavy Cavalry Sabre of the type used by the French Cuirassier. It is in fine condition, with its original leather grip and wire binding. The 37.5-inch blade is excellent with some dark speckling, but no pitting and lots of original burnish. It bears the Napoleonic inspector's stamps of Lobstein and Bisch. The spine reads in French, "Manuf(acture) Imp(erial) Du Klingenthal" and is dated April 1815, the time of Napoleon's 100 Day return. The original leather grip and wire wrap is in very fine condition. The brass guard has a nice dark bronze patina. The original scabbard is undented and unpitted, with a little light surface rusting. This has left a speckled brown patina. This is a classic Napoleonic sabre carried by the famous French Cuirassier. Stock no. 27397
