Description :
|
This is an original French MAS 49/56 Rifle manufactured by Manufacture d'armes de Saint-Étienne and chambered for the 7.5 54mm French cartridge. The MAS 49 is a semi-automatic Rifle that uses a direct impingement gas system. In 1957 an updated version was introduced and designated the MAS 49/56. It was shorter and lighter than its predecessor and used a knife bayonet. It was produced from 1957 until 1978, with 275,240 issued. ?It was replaced by the FAMAS bullpup assault rifle in 1978, but was not withdrawn from service until 1990. The MAS 49 and 49/56 rifles had a side rail which would accept a telescopic sight. This rifle is in very fine condition. It retains about 98% of its original phosphate (parkerized) finish. There is just a bit of wear on the high points of the gun. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore. The stock is very fine with just a few tiny dings from use. There are tiny importer marks on the left side of the receiver. The gun is fitted with the correct military rubber butt pad. It also has the original blade bayonet that was adopted for this rifle. The bayonet and scabbard are in very fine condition. This is a great looking MAS 49/56 in very nice condition. Stock no. 27507
