Item :	US WWII NATIONAL POSTAL METER M1 CARBINE W/ SLING, .30 CALIBER

Description :

This is an original, WWII US M1 Carbine manufactured by National Postal Meter in their third block of production, probably in early 1944. National Postal Meter produced 413,017 carbines during the war at their plant in Rochester. New York. The carbines they produced are of very high quality. This carbine is in very fine condition. It has all original WWII parts, and was never rebuilt for post-war service. While the parts are all of wartime vintage, some are not original to the gun, leading me to believe that this carbine went to a field repair depot at one time. The stock is a great condition, high-wood wartime example, but it has a crisp "SG" cartouche. All Postal Meter guns had an "NPM" cartouche, so this one was replaced. When a gun was repaired in the field, no effort was made to put the original stock back on. The carbine has the early safety, magazine release, and flip rear sight. There is no bayonet mount. The barrel is made by Marlin which is correct for a NPM carbine. The gun retains most of its parkerized finish with the butt plate and barrel band turning brown. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock and two-rivet handguard are in fine condition with a few small dings and scrapes from use. The stock has a clear "SG" cartouche with the ordnance wheel. Included is an original, early khaki carbine sling in very good condition. There is a little rust staining in a couple of places. There is no oiler. The sling is held in place with a piece of brass rod. Although not "as built", this is a straight WWII M1 Carbine. Stock no. 27416
