VERY FINE BURNSIDE US FIFTH MODEL CAVALRY CARBINE

Description :

|
.54 Caliber, Breechloading, Percussion US Military Carbine. These are marked and called in the official records "Model of 1864". Actual production started October 1863. Fine overall with 90-95% bright original blue on the barrel. Frame retains 20% plus case color hardening with the remainder a handsome dove gray. Matching Serial numbers 11884. Lever and barrel tang retain 80-90% bright charcoal blue. Mint bore, super mechanics, Excellent stock and forend with a crisp cartouche at the left flat. Inner lever and buttplate retain 25% case color with balance a smooth gray patina, These carbines saw much use during the Civil War with units such as 1st Michigan, 3rd Indiana, 5th. 6th and 7th Ohio, 1st New Jersey, 3rd WV. 13th, 14th, 18th Pennsylvania, 2nd, 12th . 14th, 16th Illinois. Very fine example.
