Item :	FINE SPRINGFIELD US MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR CAVALRY CARBINE, .45-70

Description :

Here is an original, US Model 1884 Trapdoor Cavalry Carbine manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1889. It is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. Approximately 20,000 of these were made from 1886 to 1889. This carbine is in fine condition with about 50% of its original factory blued finish remaining. It has light overall wear on the barrel and trigger guard. The lock retains nearly all of its blue. The barrel tang retains its case colors, but the breech block has darkened to a smooth dark brown, almost black. Some color is visible on the inside. The gun has excellent mechanics. The bore is in fine condition. There are a few little pits, but the bore is mostly shiny with visible rifling along its length. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. There is a chip missing on either side of the tang. There is a visible inspector's cartouche on the left side of the wrist. This is a good example of the '84 cavalry carbine. Stock no. 27307
