Item :	SUPERB, WWII GERMAN G-41 SEMI-AUTOMATIC RIFLE, 7.92X57MM

Description :

This is a WWII German G-41 Semi-Automatic Rifle manufactured in 1943 by Berlin-Lübecker Maschinenfabrik (duv code) and chambered for the 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser) cartridge. In 1940, the German army determined that a semi-automatic rifle was necessary to provide soldiers with a higher rate of fire than their bolt action rifles could achieve. Both Walther and Mauser submitted designs for trial. The Walther proved to be the better design and was adopted as the G-41. Both rifles suffered from excessive fouling due to the complex gas trap assembly at the muzzle and the corrosive salts of the cartridge primers. The Walther designed rifle, the G-41(W) was produced at both Walther in Zella-Mehlis and at Berlin-Lübecker Maschinenfabrik. It is estimated that between 115,000 and 130,000 of these rifles were produced. Production ended in 1943 with the adoption of the vastly improved G-43 Rifle. The majority of these rifles were sent to the Eastern front and many were lost. They are quite scarce today, especially in higher condition. This rifle is in excellent, museum quality condition. It retains about 98% of its factory blued finish. There is some friction wear on the receiver from the bolt's motion. The front band is turning a light brown, I suspect discoloration from the heat of the gas trap assembly. The butt plate is armory bright. The rifle has excellent mechanics. The bore is excellent as well, bright and shiny. The laminated stock is in excellent condition with just a tiny ding or two from use or storage. The rifle is all matching with Waffenamt proofs. This is a superb example of the G-41, a true museum piece. Stock no. 27230
