.46 Rimfire Caliber Single Shot Breech Loading US Military Carbine. 5,000 of these carbines were ordered by the US Army before the end of the Civil War. Some actually served in the field. 33 1/2 Inches overall with a 20 inch handsomely blued round barrel, Barrel retains 70-80% original blue. Frame is case color hardend and that is a smooth mixture of greys, blacks and steel patina, Crisp Remington patents on the stock tang. Beautiful bore. Excellent mechanics. Fine oil finished stock and forend with two very clear cartouches at the left flat. Most of these guns were sold to France for the Franco Prussian War. It's nice to have one that shows no sign of post American Military service.
