OUTSTANDING REGULATION WAR OF 1812 S.N.Y. WOODEN CANTEEN

Regulation wooden "Keg Built" canteen. 7 inches in diameter by 3 inches thick. Bound with 3/8 inch iron bands with narrow cross runners acting as sling rings. One of the sling bars still has a section of the original leather sling stuck under it! Carved, raised spout at top. Canteen is painted a pleasing dark blackish green with 1 1/4 inch "S.N.Y. in aged white on the face. Canteen is in excellent condition, tight joints and bands. These were issued out again in the Mexican war, 1846-48 and again at the beginning of the Civil War, 1861. Outstanding military antique.
