FINE, WWII SMITH & WESSON VICTORY MODEL REVOLVER, .38 SPECIAL

Description :
Here is an original, WWII Smith & Wesson Victory Model Revolver chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. The Victory Model resulted from the need for a .38 caliber revolver for pilots, aircrewmen, guards, and Military Police. Smith & Wesson's Military & Police .38 fit the bill and was less costly than the equivalent Colt Official Police. It was adopted by the U.S in 1942, but S&W had been making these revolvers for Great Britain under the Lend Lease agreements since 1940. The British revolvers were chambered for the .38/200 cartridge. This was the .38 S&W cartridge with a 200 grain bullet. The revolvers made for the U.S. military were chambered for the .38 Special cartridge. Over 568,000 were made in .38/200 and over 242,000 were made in .38 Special. This revolver is in very fine to excellent condition. It retains about 98% of its original "Black Magic" phosphate finish, Smith & Wesson's equivalent of Parkerizing. There is a bit of holster wear on the high edges. There is a faint drag line on the cylinder and two light scratches on the right side of the frame over the S&W logo. There is a small discoloration on one panel of the cylinder. The bore, chambers, and mechanics are all excellent. The walnut grips are excellent as well. The top strap is not marked as on later production revolvers. The only military marking is a tiny Ordnance Bomb stamped on the butt of the frame just ahead of the sling swivel. This is an outstanding example of the Smith & Wesson Victory Model. Stock no. 25198
