Item No.: 9113 Price : SOLD
Description :
Here is an original, Winchester Model 1873 Rifle manufactured in 1881 and chambered for the .38 W.C.F. (.38-40 Winchester) cartridge. This is a Second Model 1873 with an improved sliding dust cover. The Model 1873 is an iconic symbol of the American West. So wide spread was its use that it is known to this day as "The Gun That Won The West". They were produced from 1873 until 1919 with a total production of 720,610. This rifle has a shotgun butt and a 24" round barrel. It has been re-blued at some time in the past. It is a well done, older hot blue and all the lettering remains visible. The rifle retains about 98% of its current blued finish, with the visible finish wear on the butt plate. The mechanics work very well. The bore is dark and has some pitting, but the rifling remains visible along the barrel's length. The stock is typical of a rifle that is 138 years old with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. This is a Winchester that was around when the West was still the "West". Stock no. 23694
