Item No.: 9073 Price : SOLD
Description :
Here is an original, Remington Rolling Block Rifle manufactured in 1872 for the New York State National Guard. It is chambered for the .50-70 government cartridge. The New York contract rifles had several distinctive features not seen on other variations. They have an extremely high, curved hammer spur. The breech block thumb lever protrudes out to the right side rather than up and there is a safety mechanism that automatically returns the hammer to half cock when the breech is closed. This particular rifle is in very good condition, with an excellent bore and mechanics. There is little original finish remaining with just a trace in the crevices. The metal has been cleaned leaving a speckled, silvery pewter patina. The stock is complete, with no cracks or chips, but does have a significant number od dings and scratches from years of use. There are three inspector's cartouches, one on either side of the wrist and a third on the left side of the butt. The two on the wrist are very faint. The one on the butt is clear. There are regimental markings on the comb of the stock and upper tang of the butt plate. Included is an original bayonet in very good condition. It has an overall pewter patina with an over-speckling of dark brown. This old rifle doesn't have much finish, but it has a great bore and would be perfect for a black powder cartridge shooter.
