Item No.: 9072 Price : SOLD
Description :
This is an original, WWII, U.S. Model 1903-A3 Rifle manufactured by Remington Arms in early 1944. It is chambered for the .30-06 Government cartridge. The Model '03-A3 was a simplified version of the Model 1903 Rifle that incorporated a number of stamped parts to speed production and decrease manufacturing cost. It also featured an updated aperture sight mounted on the rear of the receiver. Markings on the stock of this rifle show that it underwent a post-WWII reinspection/rework at Rock Island Arsenal. The rifle is in fine condition with more than 95% of its parkerized finish remaining. There is just a hint of wear on a few high points. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is in fine condition with the usual small dings and scratches from use. The original inspector's cartouche of "RA FJA" with the ordnance marking remains on the left side of the stock. There is also the rework cartouche "R I A" over "E B". Sub-inspector markings remain in front of the trigger guard assembly. There are two "P" firing proofs, the original and the rework stamp. The bolt has been electro pencil matched to the gun. The stock is also stamped with the last 4 digits of the serial number. The Remington made barrel is dated "12-43". This is a nice example of the '03A3. Stock no. 22718
