WWI GERMAN MAUSER KAR 98 CARBINE BY ERFURT
Description :
Here is an original, WWI, Kar 98 Mauser Carbine manufactured by Erfurt in 1917. Adopted in 1908 for troops whose duties made the long Gew 98 awkward, the shorter Kar 98 rapidly became the most popular rifle of the German Army. By 1918, over a third of the Model 1898 arms in service were carbines. With some modifications, this would become the standard rifle of the WWII German Army. This Kar 98 is in very good, untouched, "attic" condition. Most of the blued finish has turned a smooth dark brown. The patina on the butt plate has a rougher texture. The action works very well. The bore has some pitting, but strong rifling remains along its length. The stock, which is numbered to the gun, is in good condition, but has the usual dings and scratches asociated with use. There is a large "check" crack on the left side of the butt that extends forward from the butt plate through the pistol grip. It is only visible on the left side and does not extend through to the right. This is a nice, correct, and untouched Kar 98, perfect for a reenactor. Stock no. 24098
