BELGIAN MODEL 1889 MAUSER RIFLE, HOPKINS & ALLEN MFG.
Description :
This is an original, Belgian Model 1889 Mauser Rifle manufactured by the Hopkins & Allen Arms Company of Norwich, Connecticut. These rifles were produced under contract during World War I for Belgium, as most of the country had been occupied by the Germans. Hopkins & Allen was forced to declare bankruptcy mid-contract after producing only 15,000 rifles. They were acquired by Marlin Rockwell, who completed the contract in the H&A factory. The Model 1889 Mauser is a 5-shot repeating bolt action rifle chambered for the 7.65x53mm cartridge. It was the first small-bore, smokeless powder Mauser. This rifle is in good condition. It has seen a lot of use and there is little finish remaining. There are traces of blue remaining, particularly at the rear of the receiver. The rifle has excellent mechanics. The bore is a little dark and frosty, but the rifling remains strong along its length. The stock has been lightly sanded and has a smooth even finish. There is a check crack extending forward from the butt plate up to the rear sling swivel. The rifle is fitted with a leather sling that appears to be original. The Hopkins & Allen made Model 1889 Mauser is a scarce rifle. Stock no. 23919
