Item :	RARE WWI 20 ROUND AIR SERVICE MAGAZINE, '03 SPRINGFIELD

Description :

Here is an original, WWI, 20 round magazine manufactured for the U.S. Model 1903 Springfield Rifle. It is un-issued, in the original box with instructions typed on onion skin paper. These magazines were intended for trench warfare and were also fitted to rifles used by the U.S. Air Service. The Germans had a similar magazine for the Gewehr 98. These American magazines arrived too late to see much, if any, service. There are examples of the Air Service Rifles fitted with these magazines. These magazines were not detachable, being permanently affixed, and were loaded from the top, like a conventional rifle. This one is un-issued in excellent condition. It retains nearly 100% of its parkerized finish. The box is in very good condition. One corner of the lid has split and there is some overall scuffing of the edges. This is a rare and desirable piece of WWI American equipage. Stock no. 23903
