U.S. MODEL 1879 TRAPDOOR SPRINGFIELD RIFLE
Description :
Here is a U.S. Model 1879 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle manufactured in 1884 and chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. It has been fitted with an earlier M1873 breech block, which I can not explain, as the rifle is in very fine condition. It retains more than 95% of its factory blued finish with nearly all of its rich case colors on the breech and tang. There is a little finish loss on the barrel near the muzzle and some light patina on about 1/3 of the lock plate. The mechanics are excellent and the rifle has a brilliant bore. The stock is in very fine condition with just a few small dings and pressure dents. It has a crisp 1884 dated cartouche. The rifle is fitted with the Buffington rear sight. Condition-wise, this is an outstanding trapdoor. Stock no. 23275
