FINE, "ASTON" U.S. MODEL 1842 PERCUSSION PISTOL

This is an original, U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Pistol manufactured in 1851 by Henry Aston & Co. of Middletown, Ct. The Model 1842 was a .54 caliber single shot pistol with an 8 1/2" barrel and a swivel ramrod. Aston produced 30,000 of these pistols, but only about 6,000 have the later "H.ASTON & CO." marking used in 1851 and 1852. This pistol is in fine, original condition. The gun has an overall pewter patina. The barrel and ramrod have a speckling of dark brown, but the metal is smooth. The brass furniture has a beautiful, untouched dark bronze patina. The The markings on this gun are crisp. Both the lock and barrel are dated 1851. All the inspector's initials are present. The bore is rusty and has some pitting. The stock is beautiful with crisp inspector's cartouches and initials on the left flat. This is a very nice, untouched example of the U.S. Model 1842 Pistol. Stock no. 22879
