SUPERB, U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle Manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1889. It is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. The rifle is in excellent condition. It retains more than 95% of its factory blued finish. The only visible finish wear is on the heel and toe of the butt. The remainder of the rifle has a deep rich blue. The breech block and tang retain all of their rich case color. The mechanics work perfectly and the gun has a very fine bore. There are a couple of small speckles of corrosion, but it is mostly bright and shiny. The stock is very fine with just a few small dings and scratches from use. There is a more significant ding on the left side of the stock near the breech and a larger scratch on the same side along the cleaning rod channel. Both are old and have darkened. Remember these were stored and shipped in crates. It has a crisp 1889 dated cartouche on the left wrist and a "P" firing proof on the bottom of the wrist behind the trigger guard. This is a beautiful trapdoor in a high level of condition. Stock no. 22806
