BEAUTIFUL, 16TH CENTURY ITALIAN BURGONET HELMET
Description :
This is an original, 16th Century Italian Burgonet Helmet. It is probably Florentine, dating to about 1580. It is of one piece construction, with hinged cheek pieces. The body, or skull, of the helmet is of cabasset form with a peaked top. The peak terminates in a short stalk. The peaked visor, neck guard, and cheek pieces have roped edges. The body of the helmet is chase engraved with a Florentine Fleur de Lis. Smaller Fleur de lis are engraved at the peak and base of the visor. There is a plume holder on the rear of the helmet. The helmet is assembled with brass rivets. The helmet is in very fine condition. It has an overall pewter patina with a speckling of brown. There is no lining. The plume holder has some very light damage. There is a small crack in the hinge of the right cheek piece. Burgonet helmets are not often seen made in the cabasset form. Stock no. 22459
