REVOLUTIONARY WAR FRENCH MODEL 1777 FLINTLOCK PISTOL
Description :
.75 Caliber smoothbore flintlock French Military Pistol. These were supplied to the Rebellious American Colonies by the French in great numbers during our Revolution. This one is a product of the French arsenal at St. Etienne. 7 1/2 Inch round barrel is a deep plum patina. Barrel is proofed at left breech with stylized proof and letter "B". Date "80" (for 1780) towards the breech. Most of the corrosion is centered around the touch hole as it should be. Steel frizzen is fairly smooth. Hammer is salt and peppered but still good and solid. Brass frame has a deep mellow golden patina. Very clear markings. Mellow brass pommel at butt. Strong mechanics. Iron belt or sash hook attached in trigger guard and mounted along the left side of the pistol. Like the Charleville Musket was the basis for the first US Long Arm, these brass pistols were the model for our M1799 North and Cheney pistols, the first US Military handgun. Pre-Yorktown date so this could have made it here. 22365
