Here is a fine, early 1800's, turn barrel Flintlock Pocket Pistol made by John Brasher of London, England. This is a pistol of high quality, exhibiting the pinnacle of turn barrel flintlock pistol construction. The pistol features a center action flintlock with a concealed trigger and a spring loaded, permanently mounted barrel wrench. A turn barrel pistol was loaded by removing the barrel with a wrench, pouring in a powder charge, seating a ball, and screwing the barrel back into place. The small wrench that accompanied these pistols was often lost. This pistol certainly solves that problem. One simply unfolds the wrench from its position under the barrel and uses it to turn the barrel. When the pistol is loaded, the rammer is folded back under the barrel, completely out of the way. The trigger on this pistol remains hidden until the gun is brought to full cock. At half cock, to prime the pan, the trigger stays put. Only at full cock does it pop out, ready for use. This gun is in fine condition. It exhibits the finest quality workmanship throughout. The gun is tastefully engraved and marked "BRASHER" on the left side of the frame and "LONDON" on the right. The metal has a silvery steel patina with a speckling of dark brown. There is some minor, fine pitting on the left side of the frame and barrel. The lock and action work perfectly, as does the trigger and folding wrench. The bore is very fine, smooth with no pitting. The varnished wooden grip is fine as well, with a few small dings and scratches from use. This is a great little pistol, exhibiting the "state of the art" of about 1810. Stock no. 22238
