Item :	RARE, PERCUSSION 20 GAUGE COLT REVOLVING SHOTGUN

Description :

This is an original, Colt Model 1855 Revolving Shotgun. It is a percussion, 20 gauge (.60 caliber) arm with a 5-chamber cylinder. Colt made these for just three years, from 1860-1863. Approximately 1,100 were produced in 10 and 20 gauge. This gun, number 325, has a 27" barrel, small oval trigger guard, small frame, and an uncheckered butt stock. The gun is in very good antique condition. The barrel and loading lever have a smooth dark brown patina. The frame and fluted cylinder have a rougher brown patina with some pitting around the percussion cones. There are also some small dings and vise marks on the frame. The action works well. The bore is very dark, but fairly smooth. The stock is very good with just a few dings from use. The fore end has some wear around the loading lever catch, where countless fingers have worked the lever release. There is a hairline crack extending forward about 1" from the lever catch stud towards the nose cap. The forend has a german silver nose cap and wedge escutcheons. The cleaning rod is very fine and may have the wooden rod replaced. A Colt Revolving Shotgun is a rare arm. Few were made and those few were generally hard used. Stock no. 22221
